Backend Engineer (Node.js / NestJS)
About the role
Our SaaS work runs on Node.js. GitLearner, our interactive Git learning platform, is a NestJS API on PostgreSQL and Prisma, with Redis, a Socket.IO gateway for live multiplayer rooms, and AI hints powered by Claude. TimeWasted runs on Express and MongoDB. The platform we use to run cre8clarity itself - clients, projects, invoicing, and the careers page you are reading - is NestJS too.
You will design data models and APIs, build realtime and background features, and make sure what we ship is secure and holds up under real users.
What you'll do
- Design and build REST APIs with NestJS, Prisma and PostgreSQL
- Build realtime features with WebSockets and Socket.IO
- Integrate AI models such as Claude into product features, with caching in Redis
- Implement authentication, permissions, rate limiting and other security hardening
- Build scheduled jobs, email flows, file uploads and third-party integrations
- Write tests and keep services observable and reliable in production
What you bring
- 3+ years of backend development with Node.js and TypeScript
- Production experience with NestJS or Express
- Strong SQL and PostgreSQL skills, and comfort with an ORM such as Prisma
- Understanding of authentication, authorization and common security pitfalls
- Experience designing and documenting REST APIs
